RAD Technology Medical Systems to Design and Construct Canada’s First Modular Radiation Oncology Center

RAD Technology Medical Systems has entered into a contract with Cancer Care Ontario to build Canada’s First Modular Radiation Oncology Center at The Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. This will enable Ontario’s Health Care System to expand treatment capacity. The 3,800 square foot relocatable facility will contain a state of the art shielded vault and quality outpatient support space including exam rooms and offices.

In a ceremony key noted by Premier McGuinty he highlighted the broad goal of increasing the quality of health care in Ontario.

"Ontarians deserve the very best care we can deliver, close to home," said Premier McGuinty. "Expanding the Royal Victoria Hospital and supporting its new portable radiation unit will ensure that Barrie-area families have a place to turn to - not just this year, but for years to come."

RVH President and Chief Executive Officer Janice Skot added “Traveling for treatment, when you are frightened and unwell, is extremely difficult. It can be both an emotional and financial burden, which can have a detrimental impact on a patient’s outcome. In fact, some patients can’t face that onerous journey and, tragically, choose to forgo the potentially life-saving treatment altogether”

“It is clear we are bringing life altering technology to Ontario. The region will derive significant benefits allowing hundreds of patients to be treated in their own community in unprecedented time.” said John Lefkus, President of RAD Tech.
